The Achen Ñiyeu Volcano is located in the heart of the Lanin National Park, approximately 40 miles from the city of San Martin de los Andes. The hike starts from the campgrounds at Laguna Verde and crosses a moist forest of Coihues, Raulis and Lengas. As we go deeper into the area the landscape is transformed, the forest begins to disappear and concludes in a volcanic and desert valley with waterfalls and a panoramic view of the south face of the Lanín Volcano. The ascent of the volcano passes by a path of rocks and sand and ends in the crater of the volcano. From there we can view the Huanquihue, Lanin, and Epulafquen Volcano’s, Lake Carilafquen and Lolog and the Auquinco Valley.
After the hike you will have time to relax in the park’s natural thermal hot springs. Don’t forget to pack your bathing suit!
