The trout season in Northern Patagonia kicked off on November 1st, and Spring Creek Lodge has already delivered memorable experiences for its guests. Here’s a look at the highlights so far and what’s ahead for anglers visiting this iconic fly fishing destination.
Early Snowpack Sets the Stage
A record-breaking early snowpack from June and July, the largest in 20 years, is setting up the season for success. This slow-melting snow, combined with cooler-than-usual spring temperatures, has ensured steady and clear waters in the region’s renowned rivers, including the Caleufú, Collón Curá, and Aluminé, even during the typical runoff months.
Current Fishing Conditions
- Streamers Lead the Way: Browns and Rainbows in the 20-inch range—and larger—have been the highlight of the early season, with streamers delivering consistent action.
- Dry Fly Action Emerging: As temperatures began to rise in late November, anglers have enjoyed exciting dry fly opportunities, particularly on the lakes, where daily grand slams have been common.
What’s Ahead
Waters and temperatures are trending toward their seasonal optimums, promising stable conditions for January and February anglers. Recent scouting efforts at Casa de Campo Lodge indicate that local rivers are in excellent shape, and everything is set for another stretch of fantastic fishing.
Plan Ahead for Next Season
Prime weeks for the trout season are always in high demand. We strongly recommend booking more than a year in advance to secure your spot. Planning ahead ensures you won’t miss the action.
