Why

our Golden Dorado Combo Program

is the best

Golden dorado are considered one of the hardest fighting freshwater gamefish on earth. Anglers from around the world travel to Argentina in hopes of catching one. They are the complete package; they strike flies aggressively, they jump, they make long runs, they have razor sharp teeth, and they have beautiful coloration. Landing a trophy golden dorado is an angling experience you will never forget! Below you will find a couple of reasons why our Golden Dorado Combo Program is the best dorado program in the market.

For those who don’t yet know, we have two different golden dorado lodges, and we offer anglers the unique opportunity to divide their trip between both lodges, giving them the most complete dorado experience possible.

Along the west boundary of the famous Ibera Wetlands, you can stay at La Alondra’i, where you will fish the “gin clear” waters of endless creeks, channels and lagoons in a unique and untouched natural environment. You will have the fish to yourself, since SET Fly Fishing is the only outfitter permitted to fish the west boundary of the Ibera Wetlands. The fishery offers dorado ranging in size from 4 to 12 pounds, mainly caught on surface flies. It is an incredible angling experience to fish in such a pristine paradise.

The Upper Parana River offers you the chance to catch a trophy, a truly once-in-a-lifetime golden dorado. Every season, we land a handful of fish above 40 pounds! Here you will cast flies around structure, such as logs, rocks and sandbars, in search of a huge wild beast. While you’re staying at Itati Lodge, you can also fish for the omnivorous species, pacu and pira pita. The food and accommodations are incredible as well.

But what really sets our Golden Dorado Combo Program apart is that the two lodges are only two-and-a-half hours away from one another, giving you the chance to fish 3 full days at each destination. Better yet, the route that joins our lodges consists of all paved highways, making this transfer an enjoyable, easy ride.

With our unique Golden Dorado Combo Program, you will get to experience the best of both worlds and fish two entirely different destinations during just one week. Contact us for more information.

I’ve enjoyed watching these incredible fish as they live, feed, and survive, in various types of fisheries and waterways. But only a few times in all of these years, and only in the farthest reaches of the Upper Parana River, was I lucky enough to witness the unparalleled drama of the Dorado spawning.

The primary prey fish of the Golden Dorado is the Sabalo, a medium sized schooling fish that often weighs between 3 and 5 pounds, which requires a bit of strategy along with opportunity.

These adventures are commonly reviewed as the highlight of the trip and more often we have requests from repeat anglers to do more adventure venues, which has been the motor for us to constantly seek for the next one to find.
