If you want to skip a day of fishing and take a day tour to experience Patagonia scenery then the Seven Lakes Road is a must visit. This road is the most emblematic sightseeing drive in Patagonia. In addition to joining the towns of San Martin de los Andes and Villa La Angostura the road runs across the heart of the Lakes District and through the Lanin and Nahuel Huapi National Parks.
The Seven Lakes Road is a 107 km (66.5 miles) long section of National Route 40 that stretches south to north, from Ushuaia, to la Quiaca. During the tour we will view the typical characteristics of the Patagonian Andes region: green forests, snowcapped peaks, and beautiful lakes. If you visit during the autumn months of April and May you’ll view the trees as they change color from green to vibrant reds, yellows and oranges.
Our tour will depart from the city of San Martin de los Andes and head south. Shortly after it begins we will reach the first milestone, “Arroyo Partido”. This creek, which originates in the Chapelco Mountains, has a uniqueness that is only found in a few places on earth. It’s located along the continental divide where the water branches with part of the flow going to the Atlantic Ocean and the remainder of the flow going to the Pacific Ocean.
As we continue south we will find several sightseeing stops and trails with the walk to Ñivinco Falls being one of the highlights. The walk to the falls is short and just minutes away from Villa La Angostura.
Villa La Angostura is located on the northwest shores of the Nahuel Huapi Lake. This small mountain village (that keeps growing day by day) had its beginnings as an agricultural settlement. Very little remains from that era with the exception of the spectacular views of Lake’s Nuhuel Huapi and Correntoso. Now the town vibrates with beautiful hotels and gourmet restaurants that highlight these views. We will have lunch and then visit some of the beautiful bays, maybe Cerro Belvedere, and perhaps a boat ride with Captain Ernesto on his sailboat.
