Casting for Recovery is the reason I made the journey to fly fish in Argentina. The journey began a couple years prior when a friend and I traveled from our home of Alaska to join some friends for the CFR One Fly event in Hamilton, Montana. The event gave us the opportunity to meet a whole new group of ladies and explore and fish new waters.
My friend and I both love the mission of CFR, and I have been a long-time supporter of anything related to fundraising for breast cancer. The mission of CFR is to provide healing outdoor retreats for women with breast cancer at no cost to the participants. CFR’s retreats offer opportunities for women to find inspiration, discover renewed energy for life, and experience healing connections with other women and nature.
We were in awe of the amazing women running the One Fly event and the impact it had on the ladies who were there to heal and learn. Fly fishing is not only relaxing, but the motion is also great physical therapy for healing from the impacts of breast cancer. The event was supported by many wonderful sponsors, including Andres Drifters (now SET Fly Fishing) and Spring Creek Lodge.
My friend and I were fortunate enough to bid on the package so generously donated by SET Fly Fishing, allowing us to live out our dream of fly fishing in Argentina. The experience was amazing, and it was an especially wonderful lodge for women. The food, wine, hospitality, and of course the fishing were world-class. I felt so safe and welcome. I could easily live in Argentina—it reminded me so much of Alaska!
One of my favorites parts of the trip was our two-day float on the Caleufu. The river and the landscapes we floated through were breathtakingly beautiful, and the fishing was amazing. I absolutely loved it, and the overnight camping on the banks of the river made the experience even more memorable! The whole trip was relaxing, a wonderful learning experience, and healing for the soul. Thanks to the wonderful staff, guides and whole SET Fly Fishing team for making this such a special and rewarding adventure. We cannot wait to visit Argentina again!
